Loquat Tea Side Effects
The side effects of consuming loquat tea can include toxic myopathy, which is a muscle disease leading to muscle weakness. One reported case involved a 39-year-old male who developed toxic myopathy after drinking 2 liters of loquat leaf tea daily for 2 weeks to reduce his triglyceride levels. This resulted in muscle weakness and pain, particularly in his arms. Excessive intake of raw or ripe loquats can also trigger digestive issues, kidney problems, and muscle weakness. Additionally, loquat can cause allergic reactions, leading to skin rashes, nausea, vomiting, and in severe cases, anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction. It is advised to avoid ingesting loquat seeds due to their cyanogenic glycosides content, which can release cyanide in the body.
