Tamarillo Side Effects
The key information about tamarillo side effects:
Tamarillo may cause allergic reactions in some people. According to a study published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, one participant reported experiencing hives within 12-24 hours of consuming tamarillo. The study found that tamarillo contains two proteins that can bind to immunoglobulin E, an antibody involved in allergic responses. Tamarillo may also potentially cause anaphylaxis, a severe and life-threatening allergic reaction.
Therefore, it is recommended to avoid consuming tamarillo if you have allergies to fruits and vegetables in the nightshade family, such as tomatoes and eggplant. Apart from this one reported case of hives, there do not appear to be any other well-documented side effects of tamarillo consumption.
In general, tamarillo is considered safe to eat, but as with any food, it's important to discontinue consumption and seek medical advice if any allergic symptoms occur.
